One of the questions that Tom Perriello got during his town hall was to describe what separated him from his opponent in the Democratic primary — Ralph Northam. I think it was very telling that Tom’s primary way of answering the question was to talk about himself. He didn’t focus on attacking Northam, even though this would have been an opportunity to do so, but spoke about his electability, his ability to stand up for progressive values even though he represented a conservative district, and how he has an ability to bring people into the party.
That being said, he did mention that Northam voted for George W. Bush twice and highlighted that we haven’t seen many Lt. Governors make their way into the Governor’s mansion.
