I previously wrote about how Gerry Connolly dropped out of the race to be Chair of the New Democrat Coalition. It appears as though he will still remain in the coalition’s leadership, however, as he’ll be serving as its whip.
In a statement about the appointment, Gerry focused in on the impact the organization can have on the economy.
“With the election of Donald Trump, the New Democrat Coalition is more important than ever before,” said Congressman Gerry Connolly. “We will be the front line in winning back disaffected working men and women while building the innovative economy of the future where millions of jobs and rich opportunity await. I look forward to continuing to be a part of the leadership team advocating this important agenda.”
It should also be noted that while this is a coalition of mainly moderate Democrats, Gerry hasn’t been afraid of identifying with the progressive movement either. During a hearing of the House Committee on Oversight and Reform, for instance, he used part of his opening statement to highlight how he was a progressive who was able to reach across the aisle to work with Republicans on the Committee. He was also praised during a recent meeting of Our Revolution for his progressive stance on the environment.
